16 Count Cross Stitch Size Chart
16ct Aida offers an intermediate finished size when a 14ct version is too large but you do not want to move directly to 18ct. The chart’s stitch count stays fixed while each inch holds sixteen crosses. Compare dimensions against your available opening, then judge the smaller grid with a short stitched sample before committing to a long project.
16ct Aida gives 16 full crosses per inch: 16 ÷ 1 = 16. Use this chart for stitched inches and centimeters across 24 pattern sizes, with a separate, explicit 3-inch cutting margin per side.
Count describes nominal fabric spacing. Stitching over one on 16ct Aida gives 16 crosses per inch. Measure your own cloth in both directions before cutting.
Measurements use nominal count, then convert unrounded inches with 1 in = 2.54 cm. Display rounds half-up to two decimal places. Every cut on this page adds only 3 in per side: visible border 0 + finishing allowance 3. The main calculator normally starts with a separate 1.5 in border plus 3 in finishing; the links here explicitly select this table’s 0 + 3 example. Actual cloth, clamps, seams, mats and mounting may need different allowances.
Use the size reduction to solve a specific constraint
A narrower picture may suit a card, shelf or existing display location. It does not automatically solve every fit problem: a mat can overlap the design, and lacing needs cloth outside the visible opening. Keep those requirements separate from the stitched rectangle.
The results retain unrounded values through conversion to centimeters. Only the displayed answer is rounded half-up. Avoid copying a rounded inch value into another conversion, especially when the answer falls exactly halfway between two hundredths.
Two decisions for this project
A 50 × 50 card motif at a rounding boundary
This motif is 3.13 × 3.13 in (7.94 × 7.94 cm), using exact nominal spacing before display rounding. Its allowance-inclusive cloth size is 9.13 × 9.13 in (23.18 × 23.18 cm). Size the stitched insert from the first pair, then plan the card’s attachment method separately.
A 250 × 250 square with partial coverage
The design spans 15.63 × 15.63 in (39.69 × 39.69 cm), requiring 21.63 × 21.63 in (54.93 × 54.93 cm) in this cloth example. Assuming 70% full-cross coverage gives 43750 crosses and 21.52 pooled skein equivalents in the existing two-strand model. This assumption does not count your chart or allocate thread by color.

The listed frame or hoop opening is a separate decision from the fabric you cut. Check a measured opening, or compare Aida with over-two linen. For 200 × 200, follow the existing 200x200 comparison.

Questions about this size chart
Does moving to 16ct change the chart’s number of crosses?
No. Fabric density changes physical dimensions. The pattern’s completed crosses change only if you alter its design or coverage.
Why is 50 divided by 16 displayed as 3.13 inches?
The page rounds the exact quotient half-up to two decimal places. That display rule also applies to the other inch and centimeter measurements.
Can a 16ct thread estimate be rounded into one shopping total?
A pooled equivalent is useful for planning only. Split the estimate by actual color usage and round each color’s purchase separately.
Should I round the calculated 16ct cloth requirement down?
No. Preserve the allowance you selected, check the seller’s actual cut and allow for your finishing needs before trimming cloth.
