14 Count Cross Stitch Size Chart

Use 14ct Aida as a starting point when comparing a chart’s finished size with other fabrics. One cross over one Aida block gives fourteen nominal stitches per inch. This page follows the complete route from a stitch box to a cloth requirement, so you can distinguish the picture you will see from the extra fabric needed around it.

14ct Aida gives 14 full crosses per inch: 14 ÷ 1 = 14. Use this chart for stitched inches and centimeters across 24 pattern sizes, with a separate, explicit 3-inch cutting margin per side.

Count describes nominal fabric spacing. Stitching over one on 14ct Aida gives 14 crosses per inch. Measure your own cloth in both directions before cutting.

Measurements use nominal count, then convert unrounded inches with 1 in = 2.54 cm. Display rounds half-up to two decimal places. Every cut on this page adds only 3 in per side: visible border 0 + finishing allowance 3. The main calculator normally starts with a separate 1.5 in border plus 3 in finishing; the links here explicitly select this table’s 0 + 3 example. Actual cloth, clamps, seams, mats and mounting may need different allowances.

Make the border decision before shopping

First find your chart’s maximum width and height in stitches, including isolated motifs near the edges. The table converts that bounding box. Empty space inside the box still affects its dimensions even when only part of it contains thread.

Next choose a visible border and a finishing method. These rows demonstrate zero extra visible border plus three inches for finishing at each edge. A mat or a wider reveal changes that plan. The calculator links preserve these particular inputs so you can adjust them deliberately.

Two decisions for this project

A 100 × 100 gift square

The picture occupies 7.14 × 7.14 in (18.14 × 18.14 cm). Adding the stated finishing space produces a 13.14 × 13.14 in (33.38 × 33.38 cm) cut. Write both dimensions on your project notes: a frame chosen from the cloth dimension would surround a much smaller stitched picture.

A 140 × 200 portrait layout

A rectangular chart measures 10.00 × 14.29 in (25.40 × 36.29 cm); the corresponding cloth example is 16.00 × 20.29 in (40.64 × 51.53 cm). Keep width and height in their intended orientation when checking a precut. Rotation can help a fabric piece fit, but it also rotates the design relative to the cloth.

The listed frame or hoop opening is a separate decision from the fabric you cut. Check a measured opening, or compare Aida with over-two linen. For 200 × 200, follow the existing 200x200 comparison.

Questions about this size chart

Should I enter the whole 14ct chart or only its stitched areas?

Use the outermost stitch coordinates for fabric geometry. Enter counted stitches or an explicit coverage assumption separately when estimating thread.

Why does my 14ct calculator link show no added visible border?

It carries the table’s zero-border example. Add the reveal you want in the visible-border field; keep the finishing allowance as its own decision.

Can 14ct Aida predict the size of over-two 28ct linen?

Their nominal effective densities match, so the same chart has equal calculated dimensions. The cloth structure, actual spacing and stitching experience still need separate consideration.

Does a 14ct design rectangle guarantee a ready-made frame fit?

Only an actual usable opening can establish geometric fit. Border, mat overlap and mounting requirements need their own measurements.
